Earrings – Spinifex Grass Paper with Clay
These earrings were made by hand in Central Australia using products made and collected on the million acre cattle station we call home. The paper used to make this piece of jewellery is hand made from the native Central Australian Grass in the Old Abattoir.
These earrings each have a Spinifex Grass Paper bead. Each time we make paper from a grass type it comes out a different colour and texture depending on where the plant is in it’s life cycle. I then cut the paper and roll it into beads to make a piece of jewellery. This paper has been cut in a different way to create the different bead shape. The red colour comes from adding clay into the paper pulp before forming sheets of paper, and comes from one of our big clay pans called East Lake.
We hope you enjoy your wonderful piece of jewellery, knowing it is a handmade and one-off piece.
